2. PARKING BRAKE FORCED RELEASE
CAUTION:
Work on a level surface to ensure safety.

(a) When using SST:
(1) Park the vehicle on a level surface and move the shift lever to P.
(2) Turn the engine switch off and chock the wheels.
(3) Remove the front door scuff plate LH.

(4) Remove the rear door scuff plate LH. (w/o Rear No. 2 Seat)
Click here
(5) Remove the rear door scuff plate LH. (w/ Rear No. 2 Seat)

(6) Remove the rear door inside scuff plate LH. (w/ Rear No. 2 Seat)

(7) Remove the lower center pillar garnish LH.
Click here
(8) Remove the front door scuff plate RH.
HINT:
Use the same procedure as for the LH side.
(9) Remove the rear door scuff plate RH. (w/o Rear No. 2 Seat)
HINT:
Use the same procedure as for the LH side.
(10) Remove the rear door scuff plate RH. (w/ Rear No. 2 Seat)
HINT:
Use the same procedure as for the LH side.
(11) Remove the rear door inside scuff plate RH. (w/ Rear No. 2 Seat)
HINT:
Use the same procedure as for the LH side.
(12) Remove the lower center pillar garnish RH.
HINT:
Use the same procedure as for the LH side.
(13) Disconnect the connector shown in the illustration.
(14) Connect SST (09756-48020) to SST (09756-48060).

(15) Connect SST (09756-48060) to the connector inside of the vehicle.
(16) Connect SST (09756-48020) to the battery from the outside of the vehicle.
(17) Push the release button on SST (09756-48020) with the brake pedal depressed.
CAUTION:
The vehicle may suddenly move when the parking brake is released. Make sure to perform the release operation with the brake pedal depressed.
HINT:
(18) When the FINISHED light of SST (09756-48020) illuminates, release the brake pedal.
(19) Move the vehicle forward and rearward to check that the parking brake is released.
CAUTION:
Be careful when performing this operation. The vehicle may suddenly move.
NOTICE:
(b) When not using SST:
NOTICE:
Perform the following procedure only when the parking brake cannot be released using SST.
HINT:
(1) Park the vehicle on a level surface and check that the shift lever is in P.
(2) Turn the engine switch off and check that the wheels are chocked.
(3) Check that the front door scuff plate LH has been removed.
(4) Check that the rear door scuff plate LH has been removed. (w/o Rear No. 2 Seat)
(5) Check that the rear door scuff plate LH has been removed. (w/ Rear No. 2 Seat)
(6) Check that the rear door inside scuff plate LH has been removed. (w/ Rear No. 2 Seat)
(7) Check that the lower center pillar garnish LH has been removed.
(8) Check that the front door scuff plate RH has been removed.
(9) Check that the rear door scuff plate RH has been removed. (w/o Rear No. 2 Seat)
(10) Check that the rear door scuff plate RH has been removed. (w/ Rear No. 2 Seat)
(11) Check that the rear door inside scuff plate RH has been removed. (w/ Rear No. 2 Seat)
(12) Check that the lower center pillar garnish RH has been removed.
(13) Check that the connector shown in the illustration has been disconnected.
(14) Remove the rear wheel.

CAUTION:
When using a jack, do not work on a vehicle supported only by jacks. Make sure to use safety stands.

(15) Disconnect the No. 2 parking brake wire assembly connector from the parking brake actuator assembly LH.

(16) Remove the parking brake actuator assembly LH from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly LH.
Click here
(17) Insert a 6 mm hexagon wrench into the rear disc brake cylinder assembly LH. |

(18) Turn the 6 mm hexagon wrench 2 turns clockwise to release the parking brake lock.
