REPLACEMENT

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

The necessary procedures (adjustment, calibration, initialization or registration) that must be performed after parts are removed and installed, or replaced during transfer case oil seal removal/installation are shown below.

  • Deterioration of fuel efficiency

Replacement of ECM

(If possible, read the transaxle compensation code from the previous ECM)

Perform the following procedures in the order shown:

  1. Transfer transaxle compensation code
  2. Perform road test to allow ECM to learn

Replacement of ECM

(If impossible, read the transaxle compensation code from the previous ECM)

Perform the following procedures in the order shown:

  1. Reset transaxle compensation code
  2. Perform road test to allow ECM to learn

Front wheel alignment adjustment

Calibration
  • VSC disabled or malfunctions
  • DTCs are stored
  • Slip indicator light illuminates
  • ABS warning light illuminates

Suspension, tires, etc.

(The vehicle height changes because of suspension or tire replacement)
  • Ultrasonic sensor detection angle
  • Ultrasonic sensor detection angle registration
  • Intelligent clearance sonar system
  • Intuitive parking assist system (w/ Intelligent Clearance Sonar System)

Rear television camera assembly optical axis (Back camera position setting)

Parking assist monitor system

Initialize No. 1 headlight ECU sub-assembly LH

Replacement of throttle body with motor assembly

Inspection After Repair
  • Poor idle, etc.

Cleaning the deposits from the throttle body with motor assembly

Air leaks from intake system is repaired

Gas leak from exhaust system is repaired

Replacement of ECM

Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) registration

MIL comes on

CAUTION:

The automatic transaxle assembly is very heavy. Be sure to follow the procedure described in the repair manual, or the transmission jack may suddenly drop.

If automatic transaxle parts are replaced, refer to Parts Replacement Compensation Table to determine if any additional operations are necessary.

PROCEDURE

1. REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY

2. REMOVE TRANSFER CASE OIL SEAL

(a) Using SST, remove the transfer case oil seal from the transfer case sub-assembly.

SST: 09308-00010

NOTICE:

  • Do not damage the transfer case oil seal contact surface to the transfer case sub-assembly.
  • Wear or damage to the front drive shaft oil seal RH (for Inside) on the transmission side will cause transfer oil leakage.

    If it is worn or damaged, replace the front drive shaft oil seal RH (for Inside).

3. INSTALL TRANSFER CASE OIL SEAL

(a) Using SST and a hammer, install a new transfer case oil seal to the transfer case sub-assembly as shown in the illustration.

SST: 09608-10010

SST: 09950-70010

09951-07150

Standard Depth:

9.5 to 10.5 mm (0.374 to 0.413 in.)

NOTICE:

  • Tap in the transfer case oil seal uniformly so that the transfer case oil seal is straight.
  • Do not tap in the transfer case oil seal in too far.

(b) Apply a small amount of MP grease to the lip of the transfer case oil seal.
